    Bells are used to drive away evil spirits.  Everyone knows that, don't they?  They are also used to proclaim the victory of goodness.  Everyone knows that too.  Other stuff on this page has, or could have other ritual and/or consecrational use in Buddhist/Hindu devotional activities.
