MALAYA
The currently
constituted state of Malaysia is made of several formerly colonial entities
and a handful of local hereditary governments that had treaty relationships
with the former colonizer, which happened to be Great Britain. At
a certain point after the first world war a number of those territories
were lumped together into "Malaya," which was in due course invaded and
occupied by the Japanese. When the Second World War was over and
the Japanese were gone Malaya went through several more evolutions before
becoming what it is today - economic powerhouse, maker of high tech widgets
to the world.
