As I write this in 2006 this Sicilian hoard has
been out for about a year or so. There are several hundred pieces,
not several thousand. Technically these coins are still scarce.

People frequently call the
alloy "electrum" but I think that's an error, electrum being a naturally
occurring alloy while the mix of this coin was carefully calibrated.
The clear design on both sides is unusual for the cup-shaped (scyphate)
series.
