MEXICO, clay
They made a lot of pottery in Mexico from about 1000 BC to today.  Styles of form and decoration have been major indicators of time and place for those who study these.  Mexico has had densely populated zones for at least 1000 years.  There are places where pottery items wash out of river banks and road cuts and plowed fields every time it rains.
