POSTCARDS
At the start of the third millennium it appears that the humble postcard is an object whose heyday has come and gone.  They started in the late 19th century, became extraordinarily popular for most of the 20th century, and at the moment are fairly rare in personal use.  Cheap art for art lovers, "Wonderful place, wish you were," travel substitute for penurious.  Now there are a million postcard types you can buy, but their use in actual life is very much on the wane.
