SPAIN
    The country has been occupied by humans since Neanderthal times.  A long sojourn of Phoenician and then Carthaginian rule mixed up with Celtic doings was succeeded by a Roman interlude, then Vandals, then Goths, then Arabs before the "reconquest" by the Christians who today call themselves Spanish.  A person of my acquaintance, educated in Spain during the Franco era, told me she learned in school that the pure Spanish language had no Arabic influences in it at all.  She still believes this.
