MONGOLIA,
There was a bunch of coinage and "coinage" more or less in the Chinese model made in the "barbarian" regions to the west of the Middle Kingdom.  It is a severe understatement to describe this material as poorly understood.  Most of the references are in Russian or Chinese, and most is in the preliminary descriptive stage.  Chinese style numismatic material has been found as far west as Uzbekistan.  And some of it has been found in Mongolia as well.

c. 1-200 AD, bronze "money."
I first got a couple of these in 2001.  Supplier wanted plenty of money, called them "ancient ring money."  I wrote back complaining that the metal was wrong for ancient, look how crude they are, these are just late date basket handles or something, don't send them again please.  Early in 2003 I got all of these and wrote again, this time asking what and why.  I got this answer - Mongol, contemporary with Han dynasty, hard to get.  I find that story provisionally acceptable, and am passing the story and pictures around to see if I can get any corroboration.  For the time being I am offering them as what they have been told to me to be.
