"THE EAST"
In classical ancient numismatics this is the zone from the eastern Turkish border on to Afghanistan.  There was some ethnic Greek settlement in the area before Alexander the Great, and after him there were Greek governments for a while and pockets of Greek settlement all over the place.  Most of the people though, and governments for that matter, were local.

This coin typically marketed as the "shekel of Tyre" and the "30 pieces of silver" coin and there is no reason to disparage such an attribution.  Tyrian shekels are not uncommon but the extraordinary demand for them results in the extraordinary price.
