CELTIC COINS
The Celts first showed up in Ukraine, Bulgaria, etc. perhaps in the 4th century BC as horse barbarians.  They continued migrating westward in the north-central tier until they got to Ireland.  By the 3rd century BC they were making coins imitating those of their more civilized (or civicized) southern neighbors the Greeks and Romans.  A prime cultural characteristic of the Celts, noted by the Romans, was their inordinate fondness for human sacrifice.  Their coins are noteworthy for their evolution over time into artistic representations that we label as "abstract" today.  One wonders what they were thinking (or drinking) when they carved these dies.  Very cute and mysterious coins.
